William, First Earl of Craven | History of SC Slide Collection

William, First Earl of Craven (1627-1665), was a royalist during the English Civil War, during which he provided considerable financial support to Charles I and Charles II. As a reward for his support, he was awarded a charter with seven other Proprietors of Carolina in 1663. Engraving by H. Robinson after an original portrait by Honthorst.
