Gwen Bristow (1903-1980) was a widely-read South Carolina novelist who published historical works drawn from her southern heritage and travel. Born the daughter of a Baptist minister in Marion, she lived most of her life in New Orleans and Encino, California. She first received attention for a Louisiana plantation trilogy published from 1937 to 1940, "Deep Summer," "The Handsome Road," and "This Side of Glory." Photograph about 1940.
