When Vardry McBee arrived in 1815 from North Carolina, he saw Greenville's potential. He liked it because of the good land and good climate the Upcountry had to offer. So, he saw it as a good investment, and purchased the land for $27,500. He's often referred to as the father of Greenville, S.C.
