Born in Georgia, Sue Monk Kidd graduated from Texas Christian University with a B.S. in nursing in 1970 and worked throughout her twenties as a Registered Nurse and nursing instructor. Best known for The Secret Life of Bees, which was her first novel, completed in 2002, her second novel, The Mermaid Chair, was published in 2005 and made into a Lifetime movie. She now lives beside a salt marsh near Charleston with her husband and their black lab.
