Jack Bass has authored or co-authored seven nonfiction books about the American South. His works focus on Southern politics, race relations and the role of law in shaping the civil rights era. With a B.A. and Master of Arts degrees from USC and a Ph.D. in American Studies from Emory University, he was the S.C. Government and Public Affairs Editor for The State Newspaper from 1966-73 and, since 2000, has worked as a professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at the College of Charleston. His works include The Transformation of Southern Politics (1976) and Taming the Storm (1993).
