On January 10, 1803, The Charleston Courier was launched by two federalist proprietors from Massachusetts: Aaron Smith Willington, and Loring Andrews, and from Ireland was Stephen Cullen Carpenter. This segment details the history of the early days of The Charleston Courier.

Two important issues covered by the Courier in the early 1800s were slavery, and tariffs.
