• Known as Fish Hawk or Fish Eagle
• Medium size bird with average length 53 - 61 cm and average wingspan 1.4 - 1.8 m
• Brownish-black back; white breast with bluff or brown speckles; gray tail with dark bars
• Oily dense plumage
• Wings bent like those of seagull
• Long legs and curved beak
• Long curved talons with short spines (spicules) covering undersurface of talons to help hold slippery prey
• Eats mostly live fish
• Protected under Migratory Bird Treaty Act
