(Pseudotrition ruber)

The red is one of the most beautiful salamanders in the cove forest.  Colors range from purplish brown to deep orange-red. It is lungless and terrestrial. Eggs are laid in water; this species has a prolonged larval stage that can extend for up to three years before metamorphis. This species readily consumes other species of salamanders. The red salamander produces toxic skin secretions to deter predation.
