Nature-Based Sculpture

On a rainy February day, A Natural State documented the work of Nils-Udo, a visiting artist at Clemson University. Nils' construction was the newest addition to the university's nature-based sculpture park. Nature-based sculptures use only natural materials, all of which Nils collected from the foothills area of South Carolina. Pine trees, bamboo, red clay, dirt, and grass were used in the sculpture -- a "nest" resting on the slope of a grassy hill. The use of organic materials meant the work was ephemeral, or not permanent and susceptible to decay and the elements.
