First Step auf Deutsch is an introductory course for young students in German. The ten video lessons were designed to motivate as a group of children to learn German from their neighbor who has just moved from German. In keeping with guidelines for the teaching of foreign language, this new neighbor only speaks German to the children as he teaches them. Through the use of graphics, music, and fast-paced video segments in addition to the native speaker/children scenarios, words are presented in context. Emphasis is on the "spoken" word rather than the "written" word. Cultural components are added when appropriate.
There are ten lessons in each series. Begin with First Step 101-110, then progress to Next Step 201-210, and then on to Another Step 301-310.
In the future, we will be adding the AGAIN series in each of the three languages.
The complete teacher's guide and lessons for each video can be found on the Teacher Resources page.
