Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907 in Coyoacán, a quiet town on the outskirts of Mexico City. Frida had a difficult, but triumphant life. Because of childhood polio and later, an almost fatal school bus accident at age 18, she retreated into an active fantasy life. Frida Kahlo remained partially handicapped for the rest of her life.
She used her art to vividly and faithfully record parts of her life and to turn her pain into beauty.
