The Honorable L. Casey Manning, July 2021 South Carolina African American History Calendar Honoree, from Dillon, SC, has served as a Circuit Court Judge since 1994. Prior to becoming a judge, he was an All-American high school basketball player before becoming the first African American scholarship recipient basketball player at the University of South Carolina. He went on to receive a bachelor’s in Political Science and History before earning his Juris Doctorate at the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1977. Here he discusses what life was like growing up in Dillon and why education is so vital for success.
