During the 1920’s and 1930’s, Prohibition drove liquor sales underground, and gangsters rose to power, one of which was the infamous Al Capone.  While most people endured the grueling conditions of the Great Depression, these gangsters robbed banks, and kidnapped celebrities. After President Franklin D. Roosevelt was sworn in, he enacted his “New Deal,” along with the FBI’s “War on Crime.” This set the stage for J. Edgar Hoover, and Melvin Purvis.
