Following the death of John Dillinger, Charlie “Pretty Boy” Floyd became public enemy number one. He was wanted for his involvement in the Kansas City Massacre, along with the robbing of over thirty banks. Floyd, along with his sidekick, Adam Richetti had been in hiding in Buffalo, New York, and fled from police once their names and pictures were being circulated in newspapers. Richetti was caught, but as a result of Floyd escaping, Melvin Purvis was assigned to pursue Floyd, and after a three day manhunt, Floyd was killed.
