The District’s Summer Teacher Residency is a program designed to recruit and retain highly effective teachers in high-needs schools. The month-long program begins with intensive professional learning and planning where teaching teams spend several weeks working with students for the first half of each day and engaging in instructional planning, reflective conversations, and additional structured professional learning opportunities for the remainder of the day.
The goal is to prepare new CCSD educators for situations they will face in high-poverty, high-needs schools by empowering them to build relationships with each other, master teachers, and students. They are taught how to create a classroom environment which values and uses student input and reflection to enhance learning outcomes.
