Anticipated misconception: Students may believe that the fraction with the larger denominator will have the greater value.
Special consideration: Some students selected 1/9 with the understanding that it was a smaller amount, citing "While 1/3 is more, but I wouldn't be able to eat that much cake!"
Solidify and confirm that 1/3 is greater than 1/9 with a visual model.
