Seira and her family moved to South Carolina from Mexico four years ago. She left behind many friends and family members. At 13 years old, she realized that it would be a challenge to adjust to her new surroundings. "My lifestyle in Mexico was very different from here. I struggled a little bit to get along with the differences," she explained.
In the United States, Seira goes to a school where the teachers and students speak English, not Spanish. Her radio does not play the salsa music that she likes. The usual dress, food and pastimes are new and different.
