Anderson County is located in the Upstate of South Carolina, lying halfway between Charlotte, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. Lake Hartwell is a county landmark and draws many visitors. Advanced materials manufacturing as well as the aerospace and automotive industries form the core of the county’s economy.
“Anderson County and its county seat, Anderson, were named for Revolutionary War general Robert Anderson (1741-1812)." Originally inhabited by Cherokee Indians, the area was later settled by Scotch-Irish farmers. The Cherokees gave control of the land to the United States in the form of a treaty in 1777. Part of this land became Pendleton District, and in 1826 this district was divided, resulting in Anderson and Pickens counties.
