Camp life as a Topper volunteerAllendale County lies next to the Savannah River in the Lowcountry. Its county seat is Allendale. Agriculture has a strong presence in the county’s economy, with cotton and peaches being two of its principle crops. “[The county is] proud of a rich culture, filled with history and Southern Tradition.”
Scotch-Irish, English, and Germans settled the region. Later, land from Hampton and Barnwell counties was combined to create the county in 1919, making Allendale the most recently founded county in South Carolina. The name Allendale comes from a local family, the Allens.
