CONGAREE SWAMP STORIES CAMP WORKSHOP SPEAKER
Stories About Observing Wildlife at Cedar Creek, Helium Balloons, Survival Tips, and Saving the Swamp
One of the founding fathers of Congaree National Park, Mr. John Cely has spent countless hours exploring among the big trees of the Congaree. He crafted a hand sketched map of the Congaree, detailing the landforms of the floodplain, and noting the species and size of many of the Champion Trees. He retired from the SC DNR and currently works for the Congaree Land Trust. He is an active member of the Friends of Congaree. The preservation of the Congaree National Park was initiated through an everyday citizen grassroots effort. Mr. Cely reminded us that one person can make a difference.
