Pearl Fryar uses The Gates as an example of artwork that celebrates the experience and moment of the creative act. The viewer's opportunity to interact with and be inspired by the art work justifies its temporary existence. The Gates public art project in New York was an environmental sculpture laid out across 23 miles of footpaths in Central Park. The task of erecting 7,500 gates composed of steel frames and vinyl curtains was monumental for a mere sixteen-day exhibit.
