After the governor seat slipped by W.J. Bryan Dorn a third time, he threw his support behind candidate Dick Riley, who won the election. Dorn devoted the final years of his political career to his party, serving as S.C.’s Democratic Party chairman. Dorn helped revitalize the state’s Democratic Party, and remained loyal for over forty years. Unfortunately, a stroke and bad car accident left him in poor condition just before he died. Dorn’s legacy lives on today in the lives of his family members, professional colleagues, and the community of Greenwood, South Carolina.
