Arianne uses the batik process of fabric design, a traditional art she mastered while living with the Yoruba culture of Nigeria. Batik uses wax and layers of color to create vibrant images on textiles. Examples of batik date back 2000 years in the Far East, India, Middle East and Central Asia.
In this first step, Arianne uses a pencil to draw an image on fabric. Melted wax is then applied to the pencil lines, preventing dyes from saturating the outline of the image.
