Meet Patti Callahan Henry, “the Fresh Face of Southern Literature.” Patti’s path to writing is unique. She started her adult life as a nurse, and found herself writing after she found out her daughter wanted to write books. During the visit at the bookstore in Beaufort, Cassandra King (wife of the late Pat Conroy) came to visit Patti. This illustrates an aspect of the publishing world not many people see or believe: the extraordinary camaraderie that exists between southern writers, especially the women, which few others would understand.
