This program explores the facts and legends surrounding Manse Jolly’s life. Jolly became a local icon in Anderson County, South Carolina in the years following the Civil War. He vowed to avenge the deaths of his five brothers and exact retribution from the Union soldiers who occupied the south during Reconstruction. His story is told through the recollections of his great-great nephew, Lawrence Henry Jolly, and interviews with historians. The program concludes with stories of personal encounters with Manse Jolly’s ghost as told by the current owners of the Manse Jolly House in Anderson, S.C.
