Diny Adkins recalls being taken in by an elderly couple who later couldn't take care of her, so they took her to a nun. The nun kept her hidden in a closet and was very cold and mean to her. The nun heard that the Germans were coming into the town to look for Jews. The nun took Diny to her brother in Amersfoort and she was abused by him. She resisted and he took her to her first concentration camp.

The conditions at Auschwitz were described, Some who would be used for labor were given numbers. The others went to the gas chamber. Those who were kept alive to labor in the camp were given very minimal food. People were so weakened that they would fall to the ground and die.
