The Land - Background - Episode 11

Kaltura

After living in New York and Atlanta, Pearl followed his job with a packaging company to rural Bishopville, South Carolina. Though Pearl had no family in the area, he literally "put roots" down after retirement. His work with plants and soil is both unique and fitting for the area, a farming community that evolved out of the timber industry of the late 19th - early 20th centuries. Bishopville's primary trade is still farming--a legacy which led to the creation of the local South Carolina Cotton Museum. Pearl and the museum work together to promote the natural and cultural landscape of the community.
