Dr. Angela Jill Cooley discusses the reasons behind food rationing, and the temporary wartime prohibition during World War I. Dr. Cooley also talks about the establishment of government food regulation, such as the Lever Food Control Act, and the U.S. Food Administration.

American citizens were encouraged to give up certain types of food, to help support the troops fighting overseas. As a result of this, citizens had to find alternate food types for consumption.
