Elizabeth Boatwright Coker (1909-1993) was the author of nine historical romance novels. Born in Darlington, South Carolina, she was married to South Carolina industrialist James Lide Coker, III. She graduated from Converse College and moved to New York City where she modeled hats and shoes while looking for a writing job. Her dream was to write for The New York Times. She was inducted into the South Carolina Academy of Authors in 1990.
This profile looks at Coker as a writer and speaker and her connection to the Coker family in Hartsville. An interview with the author was conducted in 1993 for Writer's Circle of South Carolina, which is used extensively in this program. (Ms. Coker died later that same year.)
