With Clyburn’s success in Washington, he does not have as much time for golf like he used to.  Clyburn’s rise through the ranks has been steady, and marked by his ability to reach across the aisle, and in the process was able to gain the respect from fellow congressmen in both parties. Clyburn appreciates history, and knows that he is making history as South Carolina’s first African American congressman since Reconstruction. Clyburn understands the significance of his position, and grants him a sense of gravitas that some of his other colleagues back home in S.C. do not possess.
