ETV Endowment, Southern Campaign Tour- Day 3 The second stop on day 3 of the Southern Campaign tour was Kings Mountain National Battlefield. Kings Mountain is a rocky wooded hill on the border of North and South Carolina. On October 7, 1780, a thousand patriots surrounded and attacked the British troops and Loyalist soldiers. This battle would become a major victory and turn the tides for the patriots. The entire trail around the battlefield is about one and a half miles, and features many historical markers and monuments. One monument the visitors and I were looking forward to seeing in particular was the site of British Colonel Patrick Ferguson, a notorious British officer. His grave marker has a large pile of rocks behind it, from years of visitors throwing rocks at it, which is a South Carolina tradition.
