Senator Pinckney served in the S.C. General Assembly, District 45, which included Allendale, Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties. He served in the S.C. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2000, and in the Senate from 2001 until his death. .
He served as pastor of the Emanuel A.M.E. Church.
