Family and friends gather during Fourth of July and Labor Day of each year at the Landy West hash house near Glenn Springs, SC to taste some of hashmaster Darryl Kendrick’s hash. Kendrick inherited the hash tradition of Landy West through marriage. Kendrick’s use of Landy’s fabled pot, “Bo-Jack”, recalls the memories and lore associated with Landy West, maintaining a viable connection to the old hashmaster. Kendrick is at the center of the arduous 16-hour cooking vigil. When asked why he continues to do something that is so labor-intensive and time-consuming, Kendrick responds, “It is something I thoroughly enjoy doing.” People come from as far away as North Carolina and Georgia to stock up on Kendrick’s version of Landy’s West popular hash.
