(Quercus rubra)
Several species of oak can be found growing in the cove forest, and Red Oak is perhaps most frequently encountered. This tree has leaves with sharp lobes and bristles at the tips and acorns that take two years to mature. This large tree species may grow to over 100 feet in height, but is more commonly 60-70 feet high.
