Basketmaker from Seneca, SC (Oconee County). Washington learned basketmaking from his father, who sold his baskets for around fifty cents each. Though he learned when he was eleven years old, Washington didn’t start selling his own baskets until he retired. In addition to baskets, his father would weave horse collars from tulip poplar bark. Interview conducted by Laurel Horton.
