This four-square bungalow type house, built in the suburbs of Columbia as it began to expand beyond its boundaries into the surrounding countryside in the early 20th century, is probably one of several houses known as the "Three Sisters" at the corner of Wheat Street and Woodrow Street in the Shandon neighborhood. With the growth of the cities, there was a promotion of these "country" neighborhoods as being more healthful for families. Houses similar in design to these were available through Sears and Roebuck mail order catalogue, and the detailed floor plans in the catalogues were widely copied and adapted by local builders.
