Helen Clark Carpenter
Canning/Preserving/Quilting
Mrs. Helen Clark Carpenter practices canning and preserving at her home in Edgefield. She learned this tradition from her mother, in her home state of Ohio. She has been canning for over forty years and enjoys preserving peaches and plums in particular. Her specialties are her plum jelly and canned peaches. She taught the art to her children when they were younger and attends the annual Peach Blossom Festival in Johnston. She has won several local festival awards for her preserves. Mrs. Clark not only knows how to can, but is also a quilter. She learned this art from watching different family members sew, and comes from a family full of quilters. She was eighteen when she started quilting and has shared her talent with the McKissick Museum.
