COLLETON, HAMPTON, AND JASPER COUNTIES

From May to June 1988, fieldwork was initiated in the lowcountry counties of Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper. Recordings were made in churches, community centers and with craftspeople of various genres throughout the region. The primary occupations in the three county region are shrimping, crabbing, fishing, and hunting. Unless otherwise noted, all interviews and photographs by Michael Chiarappa.
