The Battle of Cold Harbor takes place mere days after the Spotsylvania campaign. With The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor, they cause almost thirty days of continuous combat combined. Dr. Edgar notes that fighting for that length of time was unheard of before then. Dr. Morgan then notes that another problem both sides faced was the loss of so many officers, which caused unusual shifts in command.
