This recording consists of songs predominately created, nurtured, and encouraged by Black Americans. "Negro" spirituals are musical derivations of Africanic arts coupled with the love, power, and wrath of God. These songs depict a saga of suffering in America which is only second to sagas of the Bible. The Jarvis Brothers hold dear the concept that these songs, sung in four- and five-part harmony, are our greatest gift to mankind.
The Jarvis Brothers Quintet is the brothers Ulysses Jr., Reginald, Donald, Anthony, and Rogers. The sons of Anna and the late Ulysses Jarvis Sr. They learned lyrics and harmony from their family which paramountly holds spirituals in high esteem.
