She turns out huge, heavily ornamented sewing baskets, four-sided market baskets, and vases in the shapes of milk bottles and urns.
Middleton enjoys the solitude of her basket stand to the bustle of the market in Charleston. For her, basketmaking is also a social activity - a way for friends and family to get together to have a good time and sew. The interview was conducted at Middleton’s roadside basket stand.
